HIS Nation - In Their Element

HIS Nation: In TheIr Element

Elementary Experience 2021

For one week, the elementary students at Holbrook Indian School (HIS) experienced learning beyond classrooms and books. From September 29 to October 6, our elementary students participated in STEM activities, archery, exploring animals, and doing what they do best--playing. This annual week-long excursion is known as Elementary Experience.

Elementary Experience occurs during the same time as Outdoor School which is for the high school students. Like Outdoor School, this encounter provides an opportunity for students to know education outside of the classroom and even beyond the campus. The off-campus aspect of Elementary Experience rotates on a four-year rotation, alternating between four local venues and one long-distance trip to Utah. There is a specific focus and theme for each year.

The theme for this year was “Fear Not” from Isaiah 41:10. The learning focus for this year was on STEM classes alongside Bible, Horsemanship, Gardening. The goal is to open our students’ perspective to STEM-based fields all while centering around our general MAPS program. The four objectives of learning for this year’s Elementary Experience were:

  1. focusing on an intentional relationship with God

  2. leadership

  3. team building

  4. and having fun

When you give to the Holbrook Indian School, you are not just helping our students to learn. You are helping them gain confidence and discover their potential by providing something many of our students don’t have; a safe haven to live, learn and grow.

You are giving them the opportunity to overcome the trauma and a mistrust of people that may be holding them back.
